Shoppers Drug Mart Launches Groundbreaking ‘No App Required’ Augmented Reality Customer Experience

Shoppers Drug Mart, one of the most recognized and trusted names in Canadian retailing, boasting a growing network of over 1300 stores across Canada, will now offer customers the opportunity to experience its `Top Picks’ daily in-store promotions in an augmented reality format without having to download an app, said Julie Dunham, Manager, Communications & Corporate Affairs, Shoppers Drug Mart.

A recent pilot of the Shoppers Top Picks web-based, augmented reality program was rolled out at Sherway Gardens mall allowing shoppers to touch and see ‘virtual products’ floating above the physical product.

The in-store augmented reality platform will bring daily featured product specials to life in a dynamic 3D format on customer smartphones and tablets using a new web-based technology, thereby eliminating the need to download an app.

“Introducing this user-friendly augmented reality platform will give customers a new and exciting way to interact with their favorite brands while assisting with their purchasing decisions,” Dunham noted.

With the goal of creating the most accessible and user-friendly augmented reality retail experience unlike anything on today’s market, Shoppers Drug Mart tapped Toronto-based virtual and augmented reality innovation agency MetaVRse for the project.
