PRESS: RELEASE MetaVRse COO Julie Smithson takes the reigns as Co-President of VRARA
Julie Smithson, Chief Operating Officer of Canadian Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) startup, MetaVRse, has just accepted the role of Co-President of the Toronto Chapter of the VR/AR Association alongside Dan Heshemi, Partner at LNG Studios. The Virtual and Augmented Reality Association (VRARA), an international organization designed to foster collaboration between innovative companies and people in the VR and AR ecosystem that accelerates growth, fosters research and education, helps develop industry standards, connects member organizations and promotes the services of member companies.
With 500% year-over-year growth, the VRARA has approx 4000 companies, brands, and developers registered creating the largest ecosystem in the industry. Likewise, with constantly evolving technology in the ecosystem; the VRARA Industry Committee’s are helping define and solidify standards and best practices across multiple verticals.
Julie Smithson is the Chief Operating Officer of Canadian VR/AR startup MetaVRse, where she’s gained her industry knowledge through numerous VR/AR projects. Julie has been an active member of Toronto’s tech space, as well as the VRARA over the last several years. Julie currently sits on the VRARA’s Education Committee, and is committed to bettering the educational sector through use of immersive technologies.
“The VR/AR Community in Toronto is absolutely incredible, but has been very disjointed as everyone works on their products and solutions in isolation. Our goal with VRARA is to bring together the amazing talent in this city to foster new ideas and rapid growth of the industry” said Smithson.
In her role as COO of MetaVRse, Julie is also working on a new Virtual, Augmented & Mixed Reality (XR) Learning Centre that will be the foundation for inspiring and educating youth to explore these technologies as potential career options.

Julie’s passion for education and community has lead her to become the Co-President of the VR/AR Association, Toronto Chapter. She is also part of the Education Committee.
